This year I have decided to take on a cycle challenge for a charity that is close to my heart. I will be cycling 500 miles door to door from Bristol to Bordeaux over four days. In order to reach Bristol’s twinned city of Bordeaux, deep in the Southwest of France, we will depart Bristol early on Wednesday 9th July and travel to Portsmouth to catch the overnight ferry to St. Malo. From St Malo, we will continue on to Nantes and La Rochelle, among many other picturesque towns and villages, as we pass fields, vineyards, and the occasional hill to arrive in Bordeaux on Saturday 12th July. The reason behind taking on this challenge is to raise money for a charity called PROPS.

PROPS provide opportunities and support for those with learning difficulties and special needs – it is a unique and inclusive organisation which works with a number of community partners to promote integration and partnerships throughout the community. Initiatives range from a cafe (Crafted by PROPS), printing workshop and cycle hub all designed with the goal of creating a future where everyone who has a disability can do purposeful and rewarding work that contributes to their community.

Enroling in the Bristol to Bordeaux PROPS Cycle Challenge requires each rider to raise a minimum of £1000 through sponsorship. Since each rider pays for their own event expenses, all donations will go straight to the charity.

gift aid

Gift Aid is a remarkable initiative for those in the UK, enabling charities to reclaim the tax on your donation. By selecting the Gift Aid option, for every £10 you donate, it could be worth £12.50, at absolutely no extra cost to you! So, if you're a UK taxpayer, the next time you're at the checkout, consider ticking the Gift Aid box. Not only will you be contributing to a noble cause, but you'll also amplify the impact of your generosity. Remember, in order to Gift Aid your donation, you should be paying enough in income tax and/or capital gains tax each year to cover the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations. It's essential to keep charities updated if there are changes in your tax status, name, or address. By embracing Gift Aid, you’re empowering charitable organizations to do even more remarkable work. Let’s make every penny count!
