PROPS café, a space for EVERYONE in our community At PROPS our mission is to support adults with learning disabilities to achieve their full potential in our community. We help our Trainees gain work skills and put them into practice through worthwhile, accessible work-based experiences and meaningful employment opportunities. The latest such opportunity is the PROPS Café, which will be an innovative, multi-use space that will serve and celebrate the diverse needs and perspectives of EVERYONE in our community, especially those too often excluded from accessing public spaces. We want to provide an inspiring model for other charities and retailers for how high street spaces can evolve to become accessible, inclusive social and creative hubs within the local community. We’re partnering with local roasters, Blind Owl Coffee, to source delicious coffee as well as provide bespoke barista training and support our Trainees to work in the café. Based on the bustling Fishponds Road, the multi-use space will also showcase handmade products created by PROPS Trainees and host regular exhibitions from our projects and enterprises. Trainees in our catering project have been preparing recipes and training for months to deliver delicious baked goods and our sewing groups are working on plans to offer an alteration service for people with disabilities. The meeting and gathering space will be available for workshops and groups to come together, share ideas, knowledge and create a shared vision for the future of our communities. The PROPS Café will not only provide meaningful routes to paid employment for PROPS Trainees, who otherwise face huge barriers to entering the workforce. Most importantly, the enterprise will champion and celebrate the unique value and perspectives that adults with learning disabilities offer to the world. Come and hear more about the vision To find out more, please come along to our open evening where we will bring our vision to life, explain the impact for Trainees and the wider community and share how you can get involved. When? Wednesday 23rd February, 6pm Where? 769 Fishponds Road, BS16 2AE Why? We’d love to hear from members of the local community about how you think this hub could serve you. And if you need another reason, refreshments will be provided, lovingly prepared by PROPS trainees. In the meantime, stay tuned on PROPS Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for updates and pictures and of course invites to the grand opening! Looking for friends in the community! These are ambitious plans, to pioneer an inclusive social and creative hub for everyone in the local community. Our staff and Trainees have started work on the refit but renovating a two storey building with accessibility designed into its heart is no mean feat! So to make this dream a reality, we're asking for a little help from local friends and partners. We're looking for builders, trades, contractors and craftspeople, willing to share a little time, materials or expertise to help realise this vision of a place for everyone in the community, especially those often excluded from accessing public spaces.
